The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and Metrolink have begun the San Juan Creek Bridge Replacement Project, which will replace the 107-year-old railroad bridge over San Juan Creek in San Juan Capistrano. The project will enhance safety and reduce maintenance needs. Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.

The new bridge will meet current design and bridge-load standards. Once the new bridge is completed, the existing bridge will be demolished and a new foundation and substructure will be constructed in its place for a potential second bridge. San Juan Creek is home to environmentally sensitive wildlife and habitat and the area is difficult to access for construction, so if a future need arises for a second bridge the supporting infrastructure will be in place.

The $65.6 million project is funded by OC Go, also known as Measure M, a half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements in Orange County, as well as state and federal funds.
